ARTHUR DOUGLAS (DOUG) SQUIRES Born in York Township, ON., passed away peacefully with family by his side in Penticton, BC, on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at the age of 89 years. Doug is survived by his wife Sheila, children, Paul, Sherry, both of Edmonton, Sue of Penticton, Heather (Audi), Wendy (Jean-Pierre), and Peggy (Nigel), all of Yellowknife, brother Keith (Carolyn), nine grandchildren and numerous other relatives across Canada. Doug was a most amazing individual who was a veteran of the Second World War, even though being diagnosed with narcolepsy, he finished his mechanical engineering degree at U of T. Doug went on to get his Professional Engineer registration in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, as well as the Northwest Territories. He found time to spend 70 years in Scouting as a Scout, Rover, Cubmaster, Scoutmaster in Canada and also in the British Isles during the war years. He also trained leaders, became co-commissioner for leadership training in the N.W.T. and was a member of the 24th B.P. Guild. Doug was also on the Water Board for the West Bench Irrigation District, belonged to the Wood Carvers, Stamp Club, Arts Council Board, Operations and Maintenance at St. Saviour's Anglican Church, The Leir House and the Air Force Association. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Saviour's Anglican Church, 150 Orchard Street, Penticton, BC on June 21, 2010. Tribute donations may be made to the Penticton Air Cadets or the Boy Scouts of Canada.
