LAKHDAR LAMARI It is with great sadness that the family of Lakhdar Lamari announces his passing on December 11, 2009, at the age of 57 years after a courageous battle with cancer. Lakhdar will be sadly missed by his wife of twenty-seven years, Dr. Janet Alsip, and their children Adam (17) and Louise (14). Lakhdar was born in Algeria, the second of eleven children. He was raised in Algeria and came to the University of Manitoba in 1979 to pursue his MSc. and Ph.D. degrees in plant pathology. Upon graduation, Lakhdar joined the faculty as a researcher and professor in the Plant Science Department, a position he held for 20 years. Lakhdar was predeceased by his father Khelifa in 2007, and is survived by his mother Jemila; brothers Ahcène, Salah, Ferhat, Abdelhak, Toufiq and Moufid; sisters Fatiha, Malika, Razika, and Charahazad; mother-in-law Louise Alsip; sister-in-law Marilyn Cooper (Terry); brothers-in-law Jack Alsip (Janet Ingersoll), William Alsip, Steve Alsip (Dominique) and Richard Alsip (Elizabeth). The family would like to extend thanks to all the special friends who visited Lakhdar and supported the family throughout his illness. Special thanks to Marilyn who cared for Lakhdar in his home, and the staff at the Grace Hospice. With all our hearts we are grateful for their loving kindness. Funeral and memorial services were held and interment has taken place. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in memory of Lakhdar, to the Grace Hospice, 260 Booth St., or the Salvation Army.

Dear Lakhdar family, Just be ensured that the work of Lakhdar is still useful today. I'm currently using the software he developed and can't be thankful enough for his aim at simplifying the work of phytopathologists through applications. What he did made others progress!
