ALOIS JERAJ It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden, but peaceful, passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Louie, on Sunday, January 10, 2010. Louie passed away at his home in the arms of his loving wife, Mary, at the age of 78 years. To know Louie was to like and respect him. He will be missed by many people, but not more than by his family, his wife of 56 years, Mary; his daughter Maria (Alex); his grandchildren, Tara (Trent), Andrew and Chris; and his great-granddaughter Phoebe. Many relatives in Slovenia will also cherish their fond memories of him. Louie was predeceased by his parents and by his two brothers. Louie was born in Slovenia in 1931. He received his schooling in business and eventually opened his own sharpening business in Winnipeg. He married his sweetheart, Mary, in 1953. They saved enough to move to Canada in 1958 and later built their dream house in St. Andrews. Louie was known for his sharp intellect and many a friend and neighbour would stop by to enjoy a chat with him over coffee. Louie loved to work with his hands and he created many tools and inventions to help around the house. Louie also loved to be outside and, despite his physical limitations, could still be seen mowing his lawn every summer. Although Louie was forced to embrace an alternative retirement, he did so gracefully with the help of Mary and Tara, and enjoyed many years at home with his simple, everyday pleasures. Tara was especially fond of her Popchi , who was her hero. Louie's last three years were spent loving and enjoying the light of his life, Phoebe, who cheered him up every time he saw her. She loved to kiss her Popchi on his whiskers. A private family service and interment will be held to honour his memory and his wishes. Your heart is light and there is no more pain. Rest in peace until we meet again. We will always love you and will never forget you. Your loving family. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
