IRENE (IRAIDA) JURAS (nee ZIBIS) January 13, 1934 - February 7, 2010 Irene passed away unexpectedly in the early morning hours of February 7 from cardiac arrest. She will be sadly missed by her husband of 59 years, Joseph, who will cherish her memory forever. She will also be mourned by her children Stephen (MaryAnn), Vera (Wayne), Leonard (Michele) and Dina (Sharon) and grandchildren Lara, Nicholas, Alex and Taylor. She had a special bond with her dog, Mikey, who is also missing her. Irene grew up in war-affected Europe most of her childhood and in refugee camps. At 15 she came to Canada with her mother and sister and at 16 she met and married Joe. Working in a number of Winnipeg factories she became a stay at home when she had four children in five years. Irene was very creative and with Joe worked hard to ensure that her children had a better life and every advantage. Education was a key component and learning through reading and debates a key activity in the home. Irene also loved music, history and the arts teaching herself how to paint and signing up all the children for music lessons in at least two instruments each. Irene loved to travel whether it was camping with the family or travelling alone to the Middle East - she had an adventurous spirit! Always active Irene most recently volunteered with the Grandma and Grandpa Day Care Program at the North Centennial Pool. At Irene's request there is no formal service. Close friends and family will gather to honour her memory. Donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society. Rest in peace Mom - you deserved more than you received in this life.
