DEMETRIOS (JAMES) KAVADAS Peacefully on February 10, 2010 at the St. Boniface Hospital, James passed into the arms of his Maker with family by his side. James was born in Vavilli, Chios, Greece, on October 26, 1941. James was blessed by a loving family of two brothers and two sisters. At the age of 20, following the footsteps of his brother and sister, he immigrated to Winnipeg, where he made his new home. He quickly embraced the Greek Community becoming active in the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church and a loyal life time member of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA). James' chosen profession began at the age of 23. He became a recognized and leading hairstylist with the opening of Salon De Seville in 1965, spanning four decades. Reaching the pinnacle of his career, with countless awards and presentations achieving Master Judge Status, he was admired by his fellow peers, infinite clients and friends. James is survived by his brothers and sisters, Rev. Christos (Kiki), Irini, Tom (Koula) and Dora (Stavros), as well as many nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. James was predeceased by his father Konstantinos Kavadas, mother Marionga Kavadas, and brother-in-law Konstantinos Bilali. The family would like to extend great gratitude and appreciation for the kind, loving care and exceptional treatment of James to the Doctors and staff at the Grace Hospital and CancerCare Manitoba. Special thank you to the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit. Services will be held at the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Avenue. Prayers: Monday, February 15 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service: Tuesday, February 16 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow along with interment at Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of James Kavadas may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
