VALERIE MENEC It is with deep sadness and fond memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Valerie Menec (née Pasquill) on February 16, 2010. Valerie is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Larry; son Geoff (Melanie); daughter Andrea; grandchildren, Justin, Harrison and Jesse; mother Elsie Pasquill; sisters, Barbara and Jackie (Bonar); mother-in-law Elizabeth Menec; sister-in-law Denise (Bill); and brothers-in-law, Ron (Janet) and Rich (Verena). Valerie was predeceased by her father Geoff Pasquill, in 1984 and her father-in-law John Menec, in 1981. Valerie was born and raised in Neepawa. Upon certification as a teacher she accepted a position at Ste. Rose Collegiate. Following a move to Ste. Anne in 1990, Valerie continued working in the field of education at Springfield Collegiate in Oakbank. After her retirement from Springfield Collegiate she worked as a part-time teacher in adult education at JobWorks in Winnipeg. She felt this was a great way to wind down a satisfying career. Plans for a long and happy retirement at Paradise Village were cruelly cut short when Valerie was diagnosed with terminal cancer 13 months ago. Words cannot adequately express the gratitude for the support received from relatives, friends and care workers. A special thanks to the superb staff at CancerCare in Steinbach. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to CancerCare Manitoba, 1109 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or to Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach. A memorial service will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach on Monday, February 22 at 2:00 p.m. A private interment will take place in Neepawa at a later date.
