Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVERNA DYCK (nee LOEWEN) November 15, 1929 - February 28, 2010 With family by her side and great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was predeceased by her husband Herb in 1996 and her brother Ernie in 2004. Verna was born at home in Winkler, Manitoba. Baptised at Bergthaler Mennonite Church in Winkler May 30, 1948. She later met Dad and they were married June 11, 1950. They lived in Morden and later moved to Winnipeg. Mom stayed at home and looked after her children up to a certain age before she decided to go to work. She worked for Gondola Pizza Commissary on St. Anne's Rd. for many years and continued on with them after they moved to DeBaets St. Mom later retired from Gondola and took on a part-time job with the La Verendrye Club in St. Boniface where she remained for some time. In 1996 Mom was diagnosed with cancer on the spinal cord and was told that it was inoperable and that she would most likely never walk again. With great determination, Mom persevered and overcame this hurdle. She proved the doctors wrong, was able to overcome her disability and was soon walking with a cane. Although there were permanent repercussions from this ordeal, Mom was able to manage with great determination. Several years later the cancer was gone, never to return. Mom continued to go about her daily chores, even though it was a struggle at times but insisted on doing for herself. She would only ask for help when absolutely necessary. Mom was a very giving person and a regular donor to many charities, mostly those related to family members. She leaves to mourn her three sons, James, Dwight (Sharon) and Bradley, all of Winnipeg; one daughter, Rosemarie (Mark), also of Winnipeg; six grandchildren, Mandy, Rick (Deanne), Michael, Robin, Duane and Paige; two great-grandchildren, Austin and Kailey; three brothers, three sisters, their spouses, numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 DesMeurons St. Interment will follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice. DESJARDINS 233-4949 1-888-233-4949
