HARVEY CHARLES NICHOLS June 18, 1930 - March 22, 2010 With great sorrow the family announce the passing of their beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, Harvey Charles Nichols, peacefully at home. He was predeceased by his parents, his three brothers, two sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law and two nephews. His memory will be cherished by his loving wife of 53 years (married May 19, 1956), Verna (nee Jeffery), his children Jeffery (Cindy), Gloria (Richard), Joel (Brenda) and Megan (Tony); his grandchildren, Bradley, Charles, Christian, Cameron, Joseph, Candice, Wesley, Sandra, Sean, Eric, Seth, Kira and Ewan; his sisters Joyce (Arnold) and Margaret, his friends and the rest of his close knit family. Harvey went to school in Sanford, MB and graduated from grade 12. He worked on the family farm until he moved to Winnipeg. He worked at a lumber store for a year and then was hired on with Winnipeg Transit where he drove a bus for 38 years and retired wearing the #1 badge. Throughout his years as a bus driver, Harvey continued farming and planting gardens. As his years became golden he rented the land out and used the farm as a summer retreat and a winter base camp for a plethora of antique snowmobiles. Harvey was a country boy at heart and valued a look in the eye and a firm handshake more than any words or documents. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 24 from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Funeral service will be held at Chapel Lawn on Thursday, March 25 at 10:00 a.m. with interment and reception to follow. Pallbearers will be Jeff, Joel, Richard, Tony, Wesley and Charles. The family would like to thank the Palliative Care Unit for their support and guidance, particularly Trish and Rachel. Thanks also to Christine at Brathwaite's Pharmacy and Dr. Paul Lu. Donations in lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 200-310 Broadway, R3C 0S6 or WRHA (Palliative Care) or Crescent Fort Rouge United Church, 525 Wardlaw Ave., R3L 0L9. To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
