RUPERT WILLIAM (BILL) EGAN A true gentleman and a gentle man On March 23, 2010 at Victoria General Hospital, after a brief stay, Bill passed away with his family by his side. Bill grew up in St. James on Rutland Street and as a young boy he delivered the Free Press paper from Rutland Street to Deer Lodge and Deer Lodge Hospital. He had the nickname of Newsy Egan . He worked at the C.N.R. from 1939 to 1981, when he retired at the age of 61. Bill joined the Navy from 1940 to 1945. Bill is survived by his wife Mabel (Johnston). They had their 67th wedding anniversary on March 6. Bill is also survived by his son Terry and his wife Sandy; grandson Jeff Egan and his wife Tanya and great-grandchildren Matthew and Jordis; granddaughter Michelle Taylor and her three children, Kyle, Katelynn and Shelby. Bill is also survived by his brother George Egan and two nephews, George and Larry all of British Columbia. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Edith and his sister Margery Blackman. Bill and Mabel met at Grand Beach when they were teenagers. Mable's parents had a cottage there where many great years were spent until Bill could no longer travel there. Bill and Mabel lived in their house on Hill Street for 50 years. They moved to Kirckhoff Gardens in 1998 on Dakota Street where they've made many great friends. Bill so enjoyed his coffee downstairs talking and joking with the men. He also enjoyed playing pool until he could no longer play. According to Bill's wishes cremation has taken place and no service will be held. If friends so desire, donations in Bill's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.   • Grandpa Egan & Grandma Genivive Nault & Anis Nault, you all have taught me that I have a voice and that I should use it. I wasn’t allowed to know. I see that you are all gone.
