GORDON (GORD) GERALD GEIGER November 20, 1935 - March 22, 2010 On Monday, March 22, 2010 at the Health Sciences Centre, after a courageous battle with cancer, Gordon Geiger passed away at the age of 74 years. Left to celebrate his life are his beloved wife of 55 years of marriage, Joyce; son Mark; daughter-in-law Deanna; daughter Michele; son-in-law Michael, and grandchildren, Morgan, Zachery, Alexandra, Gabrielle and Garrett. His love and devotion to Joyce and his family are an inspiration for all of us. Gordie and Joyce had a wonderful, full life of travel and adventure. Born November 20, 1935 in Gravelbourg, SK, he joined the Air Force as an air weapons tech at the age of 17, seeking a different kind of life. He succeeded, receiving postings in St. Jean, QC; Greenwood, NS; Comox, BC; Cold Lake, AB; most dear to his heart, several in Baden-Soellingen, Germany, where both of their children were born; and, of course, Winnipeg. Gordie began his career working on Lancasters and ended with the CF-18, after 32 full years which also included EOD experience. He went on to work at Bristol Aerospace as a Safety and Security Officer, then at Manitoba Pool from whence he retired a second time in 1998. During his civilian career, he left a lasting legacy of safety by working on the national WHMIS regulations, and by developing a chemical safety programme for farmers. He was also a longstanding member of the Manitoba Safety Council. Mark followed his lead into the world of safety, and Michele to the military; I'm sure the trend will follow with his grandchildren as well. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 29, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Roman Catholic Church, 2235 Silver Avenue at Whytewold Road, with Rev. Fr. Lance Magdziak, presiding. A reception will follow at the A.N.A.F., #283 - 3584 Portage Avenue. Those who knew Gord well knew his wishes - a true celebration, with laughter and joy; he particularly specified that he did not want a lot of black! In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gordie's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or to the Health Sciences Centre Foundation, MS 107 - 820 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1R9.

I first met Gord and his son Mark taking the initial safety program set up by the University of Manitoba-this was a three and half year program with a practicum. I got to know him as a lot of times we were in the small work groups. We continued our association after graduation and had many lunches over the years when he was at Bristol and Manitoba Pool. I found Gord to be a true professional in his devotion to safety for the workers and introducing new programs at work in safety. I enjoyed his wit and humour and his out look to life. Sorry to see you go and I will miss our times together. - Posted by: colin dederick (a person who took three years of safety courses with Gord) on: Oct 28, 2016
