Mrs. Schoen was born at Amisk, Alberta on April 1, 1915 and died at the Grace Hospital, Winnipeg on April 2, 2010 at the age of 95 years. Mrs. Schoen was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Nels and Anna Nystrom. Her family lived at a number of different locations in Alberta and Saskatchewan before settling permanently in Winnipeg in 1927. In 1940 Olga was married to her husband Mr. Joseph Schoen, in a marriage that was to endure for 52 years. Mrs. Schoen was predeceased by her husband in 1992 and by her elder son John in 1999 and is survived by her younger son, Joseph. Olga Schoen is remembered for her cheerful spirit, generosity, loyalty and enduring strength of mind and soul. During her long life, she encountered much hardship, adversity, want and many serious health problems, but, in spite of endless misfortune and disappointment, her strength of character always shone through. Mrs. Schoen is survived by many relatives, both close and distant, throughout Western Canada, the United States and Sweden. Since December 2009, Olga was almost continuously hospitalized at the Grace Hospital of Winnipeg. She often spoke of the wonderful care that she received there. And so, the family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of the Grace Hospital, to all, including doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, social workers, health aides and hospital attendants. Cremation and interment of ashes have already taken place. In accordance with Mrs. Schoen's wishes and intent, there will be no formal observances. All tributes and tokens of remembrance are gratefully declined. Her remains are laid alongside those of her mother, father, husband and elder son at the family gravesite at Brookside Cemetery in Winnipeg. Mrs. Olga Schoen has a rightful place amongst the very finest of daughters, wives, mothers and true friends and will be so remembered with respect and affection by all who were privileged to know her. May she rest in peace. THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 669 BROADWAY, WINNIPEG, MB R3C OX4 783-7211 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsonfuneralchapel.com
