OLGA SCHMIDT 1925 - 2010 Olga Schmidt (nee Dueck) died at the age of 85 after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's. She was born in Orenburg, Russia and at an early age immigrated to Canada. She grew up in Alexander, Manitoba and went on to take Bible School training in Winkler. She wanted to become a nurse because she saw many opportunities to serve in this way. Upon receiving her nursing diploma she went to work at an orphanage in Brazil. There she met her first husband Jacob Dueck. They enjoyed 23 years of marriage before his passing in 1981. She continued to work as a nurse at the Salem Personal Care Home in Winkler until she retired in 1989. Upon her retirement she moved to Winnipeg. It is here where she became reacquainted with John M. Schmidt. They were married in 1994 and enjoyed 13 and one-half years of marriage before his passing in 2008. Mom will be remembered by her children Rose and Dave Prince, Marv and Kate Dueck, Ron and Heidi Dueck, seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one sister-in-law, three brothers and three sisters and all their spouses, as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Eastview Community Church, 3500 Devries Ave. with interment at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be held from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 5 in the chapel of Donwood Manor.
