I had the pleasure of teaching with Verna at Principal Sparling School. She was a master teacher who led by example. Her dedication to the profession and her children was inspiring. We worked together in a summer enrichment program along with Stella and Elsie - what a formidable team! She will always be one of the fond memories I have of teaching and remains one of my favorite people. Jack - Posted by: jack king (friend and colleague) on: Nov 20, 2016

Miss Maksimow was my kindergarten teacher at Principal Sparling Elementary School in 1971. I remember her to this day as an amazing teacher who made me feel very special and capable. In fact, I always loved school because of the great start I had with her, and I am now a kindergarten teacher myself. I just recently discovered my old kindergarten scrapbook, and as I turned the pages and relived the memories, I thought to google her name. I am so sorry to find that she is deceased, as I have often thought over the years I would love to find her and let her know what an impact she made on my life. I am sure her passion and love for children lives on in many of us. I try daily to remember the way in which she made me feel so special, as a five year old. It is my goal to do the same with each of my young students. Miss Maksimow was a very special person, who lives on in the hearts of many. I will never forget her. - Posted by: Christine Jordan (Friesen) (past student) on: Mar 08, 2014

Miss Maksimow was my Grade 1, 2 and 3 teacher at Greenway Elementary in the early 1960s. I remember her as an excellent teacher who truly cared about her students. She had the knack of making each one of us feel like we were special. I was lucky to be a member of her class. - Posted by: Janet Hamende (Friend) on: Apr 27, 2010
