Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY ROSE (RUSSELL) YOUNG Dorothy Rose (Russell) Young passed away peacefully at the Vista Park Lodge in Winnipeg on April 10, 2010, ten days short of her 97th birthday. Dorothy (fondly known as Doris by relatives and friends at Lenore) was born at Lenore, Manitoba to her parents, Bernard and Emma Russell (Bell) on April 20, 1913. She was the second oldest of eight siblings. Doris took all her school at Lenore and then obtained her R.N. Nursing Degree in 1937 at the Winnipeg General Hospital. Her nursing career in Winnipeg spanned over a period of 45 years, mostly as Matron of a maternity ward and then as a Public Health Nurse. On June 25, 1949 Dorothy married Fred Young in Winnipeg at St. Matthew's Anglican Church. For 61 years she and Fred took an active role in the worship and operation of St. Matthew's. Dorothy and Fred lived at 16 Glenview Avenue in Winnipeg for 58 years. In 2009, Dorothy moved to the Vista Park Lodge after her husband, Fred, passed away. Dorothy was a lifelong member of the Sons of Scotland and proudly wore her kilt to all functions. Until the past two years she attended all Nurses' Alumni functions as well. Dorothy will be remembered for her care and compassion for friends, neighbours and relatives. She made it her duty to keep in touch through visits, letters and telephone calls. She enjoyed coming home to celebrate yearly events such as Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving with her Lenore and Virden relatives. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Fred in 2009, parents Bernard and Emma Russell (Bell), brothers Bernard Russell and Cecil Russell, sister-in-law Florence Russell, and brothers-in-law Gordon Dryden and Norman Daniel. She is survived by three sisters, Lillian Dryden, Evelyn Daniel and Irene (Elgin) Routledge all from Virden; two brothers Wilbert Russell (Dorothy) from Ames, Iowa and Wes Russell (Marj) from Virden; sister-in-law, Margery Russell from Bassano, Alberta; Fred's stepsister, Barbara (Len) Keim from Carstairs, Alberta; many nieces and nephews; and special neighbours, Marian Tronrud and Ashley MacKenzie. Dorothy was an important link in our family chain and will be sadly missed. A private graveyard service will be held at the Breadalbane Cemetery on Saturday, April 24 at 2:00 p.m. to celebrate the life of Dorothy (Doris) Young.
