VINNIE HILL LAW (ARMITAGE) April 20, 1924 - May 3, 2010 Vinnie Hill Law (Armitage) loving wife of David William Law died at the age of 86 at West Park Manor in Winnipeg, Manitoba on May 3, 2010. Vinnie is survived by Dave, her husband of 66 years, and her three daughters and their spouses: Diane Law (Rob Christie) Brenda Burtnick (Les) and Audrey Hosegood (Bruce). Vin has three grandchildren: Samuel David Burtnick (Dusk Goward), Adam Michael Burtnick and Colin Law Christie; and one great- grandchild: Tristan Oben Burtnick. Vinnie's parents were Lydia (nee Kaltenburger) and Leslie Willie Armitage. She has two living younger siblings: Garry William Armitage (Dorothy) and Audrey Lillian Bone (Wray). She also leaves behind one niece and several nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Vin and Dave were teenage sweethearts and bought their first house together at age 17, a few years before their marriage on November 3, 1943. Soon after, Dave enlisted in the navy. Vin followed Dave across the country when he was stationed in Canada and waited for his safe return at home in Winnipeg when he was stationed overseas. They started a family in 1949 with the arrival of their first daughter, Lynda Diane. Two more daughters followed: Brenda Joyce (1951) and Audrey Jean (1958). They built their second home on Thurso Street in Winnipeg when Brenda was born. When Audrey was born, they added another home to their property and Vin's parents and Dave's mom and grandmother moved in next door. Vin was devoted to raising her children. She also taught Sunday school at both Harrow and Oxford United Church and CGIT at Oxford. After she felt her children were old enough, she worked in private daycare. Next, she taught Tiny Tots at Crescentwood Community Centre for several years. In her 50s, she sought a university degree and at age 62, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Winnipeg. From there, as a member of the Manitoba Multicultural Society, Vin worked on a project called Images of the Past being planned for The Forks in downtown Winnipeg. She liked to read, travel, swim, knit, sew and play bridge. She also had a weakness, shared by her husband, for ice cream. The last decade and a half of Vin's life was sadly diminished by Alzheimer's-related dementia. For the past 11 plus years she lived at West Park Manor Personal Care Home. She will be remembered as a fine person who did things for others; who had a special love for her husband and family, and all young children. A celebration of Vinnie's life is being planned for mid-October. Donations to the Alzheimer's Society or a charity of your choice. Arrangements by Thomson in the Park.
