Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDORIS EVELYN PAYE (nee Smith) Peacefully, on May 10, 2010 at Grace Hospital, Doris Paye, aged 98, passed on to be with her Lord and Saviour. Doris was predeceased by Cyril, her husband for 59 years. Doris will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Barbara and Carol; son-in-law Jim; grandchildren Chris (Sonya), Stef and Stacey, Kyle, Scott and Jordan; and her great-grandchildren Kelly, Toni, Amber and Jessica. She will also be sadly missed by her many friends, neighbours and other relatives. Doris was born in Winnipeg on October 12, 1911, the only child of Henry and Rose Smith. Doris' mom and dad emigrated from England in the early 1900s and virtually pioneered a home on Whytewold Road. She often talked about riding her horse Prince in those simpler times. She spent 11 years working with Eaton's, in 12 different departments. Doris married Cyril in 1940, and for the rest of her days she lived mainly in the St. James area. As a homemaker, in addition to helping raise her two daughters, Doris had many interests. She babysat, did volunteer work and also enjoyed baking, knitting, crafts and travelling. She was especially passionate about scrabble, cards and gardening, she loved nature and all of God's creatures. Doris was a quiet unassuming behind-the-scenes kind of person with a remarkably kind, gentle and generous soul. Truly, to know her was to love her. Our family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Grace General Hospital for the excellent care mom was given. A celebration of mom's life will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. on Friday, May 14, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. Cremation will have taken place, and interment will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Doris' memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada or to a charity of your choice, if so inclined.
