Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRONALD ARTHUR GILLESPIE With extreme sadness we announce the unexpected passing of Ron on May 21, 2010 at the Golden Links Lodge. Ron was born June 8, 1944 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He came into this world as a little person and had to overcome many trials and tribulations during his lifetime. He managed to overcome most of them in his own unique way. Ron was a very intelligent persona and had a very wry sense of humour. You could never get the better of him. Ron started his education at Tache School, Norwood. He then proceeded to Norwood Collegiate (now Nelson MacIntyre). Upon graduating he enrolled at Success Business College where he received his C.P.A. Certificate. Ron then began employment at Manitoba Hospital Association (now W.R.H.A.). He enjoyed this type of work very much. He was employed there for a good number of years. However, Ron developed back problems. He went through two spinal cord operations but his problems deteriorated to the point where he ended up at Seven Oaks Hospital. After six months there he moved to Misericordia Hospital. Ron spent two years there. Ron finally ended up at Golden Links Lodge. Special thanks to the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital and Misericordia Hospital. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the extra special care Ron received at Golden Links Lodge, a very special place. Ron was a very avid sports fan. His favourite teams were the Chicago Cubbies, Hawks, and the Pistons. He went to Russia with the Winnipeg Jets in the 1970s. He said it was his best trip ever. Ron, you are a very special person. You will always be in our hearts. Ron is survived by his sister Gwen (Carl), nephew Garry Mattson (Sharon), cousins Erik and Sean Mattson and by numerous nieces and nephews. Ron was predeceased by his parents Rebecca Gillespie and Hugh Gillespie, brother Edward, sister Doris, and his grandparents and uncles and aunts. Visitation will be from 1:15 to 1:45 p.m. on Friday, May 28, 2010 at Thomson Funeral Home, followed by interment at 2:00 p.m. at Brookside Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Ron's name to a charity of your choice.
