Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH (BETTY) ANNE WOOD August 20, 1931- May 25, 2010 It is with deep sorrow that we announce that on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, Betty passed on at the Poseidon Care Centre at the age of 78 years. Remaining to forever cherish Betty's memory are Lyall, her husband of 60 years of marriage; children, Pat (Jim) Shuttleworth, Ken (Yvonne) Wood, Bob (Jo-Anne) Wood, Wendy (Allen) Gibson; grandchildren Kim, Roland, Erin, Stacey, Chris, Alice, Elise, Tara, Michael, Jamie, Kevin; 12 great-grandchildren as well as sisters-in-law Margaret (Bob) Corfield, Merle MacPherson and brother-in-law Joe (Lucille) Wood. She was predeceased by her parents, Irene and Tom Blakely; sisters Allyn, Frances and Auriol; brother Guy and granddaughter, Bonnie. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Betty met the man of her dreams and they were married on July 4, 1949 and celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary last year. The family later moved to Headingley where they had the opportunity to meet many friends. In 1975 Betty and Lyall moved to Surrey, BC and returned to Winnipeg in 2005. Betty was a Journeyman Typesetter and worked for the Winnipeg Tribune and Winnipeg Free Press, until they moved to Vancouver. While there she continued her career, and ran her own company for a while, until her arthritis did not allow her to continue. Betty was an active member in Electa #2, O.E.S. until she was not able to attend any more due to her Alzheimer's. She loved being the caregiver and sewed, cooked, baked for us all. She also loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with her favourite memories being spent around the campfire with them while on those many trips to BC, as well as the many trips Betty and Lyall took down south for the winter. On Friday, May 28, 2010, Betty's Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue. The family would like to express a special thank you to the wonderful staff of The Poseidon Care Centre for the care, respect and love shown to Betty in the past year. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations in Betty's memory be made to either the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, Unit 10 - Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 or the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7. I thank my God for every day that brings to me the joy there is in the little things.
