DAVID IAN DONAGHY December 5, 1948 May 22, 2010 Peacefully, surrounded by his family, Dave passed away at Concordia Hospital at 61 years of age. Dave will be greatly missed and remembered by Bea, his loving wife of 40 years and children: Kerri Olinkin, Bonnie Kryvoruchko, Michael (Amanda) and Steven Donaghy. His grand-children: Scott Olinkin; Nova, Krystal and Anna Kryvoruchko; Hailey and Megan Donaghy. His sister Willa Harris and his brother Jim (Jill) Donaghy. His mother-in-law Myrt Meichel and brother-in-law Vern Lanyon. Brothers-in-law, Randy and Richard Lanyon and their mother Doris, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Edgar (Ted) and Evelyn Donaghy; his father-in-law Albert Lanyon and his brother-in-law Durward Harris. Dave was devoted to his family; placing their needs before his own. He was always generous with his time, encouraging and assisting his children with all aspects of their lives and striving for the best possible results. His six grandchildren brought great joy to his life giving Grandpa Hugs to all of them. He led by example; giving back to community through volunteering. Dave was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and was known as a friendly and reliable usher. He brought these same qualities to his profession. Modest and quiet by nature, Dave was an organized and diligent hard worker. He took great pride in representing Manitoba Agriculture on several national committees. No farewell words were spoken, No time to say goodbye You were gone before we knew it, And only God can tell us why. Dave was born in Boissevain, Manitoba. He helped on the family farm in Ninga, raising and showing cattle in his 4H Club. He graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1970 with the gold medal in Agriculture (Honours). He continued his education, obtaining his degree of Doctor of Philosophy in October 1973. Dave chose a career with Manitoba Agriculture for over 28 years, holding several positions including weed specialist, Chief of Weeds Section Soils and Crops Branch, Director of Eastern Region in Beausejour, Director of Special Projects, Assistant Deputy Minister and Chief Executive Officer of the Food Development Centre in Portage la Prairie. Dave was employed as Chief Administrative Officer of the R.M. of Springfield in 2004 prior to operating his own business, Firetak Manufacturing Ltd. in 2008 to present. Dr. Donaghy, P. Ag. was a member of the Manitoba Institute of Agrologists since 1974, serving as president for three years. He rewrote the Agrologists Act and presented it to the Legislative Assembly in 1983. This was the first major change to the Act since 1950 and was very important to the working operations of the Institute and to agriculture in Manitoba. He was honoured with the Agrologists Recognition Award in 1992. He was a founding member of the Manitoba-North Dakota No-Till Farmers Association. Dave was committed to the 4H program in Manitoba, particularly the student exchange with the York-Benimaru Foundation in Japan. Dave was also President of the Beausejour Minor Hockey Association and served on several boards. Many thanks to Dr. Macek and the staff at Concordia ICU for their excellent care and compassion. Our heartfelt appreciation to Pastor Brad Schollenberg for his comfort, support and guidance to the family. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Monday, May 31, 2010 at Peace Lutheran Church, 350 Gilmore Avenue at 11:00 a.m. with lunch to follow. Ash interment will be at Kildonan Presbyterian Cemetery, 2373 Main Street (first right turn north of Chief Peguis Bridge). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peace Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
