HUBERT HUIZINGA 1918 2010 Hubert was born on November 16, 1918 in Venlo, The Netherlands. He and his family immigrated to Canada in 1953. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Anny, in 1989 and his daughter MaryAnn Watsko, daughter-in-law April and great-grandson Jamie. He is survived by his children, John, Sylvia and Gilles, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Hubert began his Canadian career in Winnipeg with Maclean Machinery. After leaving Maclean's, he became manager at Nuclear Enterprises. Shortly thereafter he and Anny moved to Sunnyvale, California, where he set up a new plant for Nuclear Enterprises. However they both longed to be closer to their children and after several years decided to move back to Winnipeg. He ended his working career with Canada Post. Hubert had a full and active life. He was an avid soccer fan and was a highly regarded referee in Holland and in the men's league in Winnipeg. He officiated at the 1967 Pan Am games. Upon his retirement, he was fortunate to be able to spend many winters in California. Unfortunately Hubert suffered a stroke 10 years ago and spent his remaining years at Rivereast Personal Care Home, where he received many visitors. Hubert was so looking forward to watching the upcoming World Cup of Soccer where he was hoping the Dutch would finally prevail. Hubert's final years at his personal care home were made as comfortable for him as possible, especially due to his dedicated daughters, MaryAnn and Sylvia and his longtime friend Anna Maria Du Croix. The family extends their thanks to the staff at Rivereast Personal Care Home for the excellent care he received. A private family celebration has taken place and Hubert was interred on Monday, June 7, 2010 next to his wife. May They Rest in Peace GO HOLLAND GO! Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111
