HERBERT (BERT) EVANS 1918 - 2010 Bert had a long, healthy, and happy life; therefore we do not announce his passing with sadness, but rather with joy for the life he lived. Bert is survived by his wife Elvera, daughter Mavis (Metro), son David (Judy), stepdaughters Tracy and Karen, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Bert was born in England, coming to Canada with his parents when he was a young child. Bert had nothing but love for his parents as he said They were the greatest. One of his greatest loves was music. He sang solos in choirs, and conducted choirs for over 60 years. He was General Chairman of the Winnipeg Music Competition Festival for six years, past President of the Winnipeg Philharmonic Choir and sang with the Phil for many years. Bert married Helen in 1941 and they raised two wonderful children, who in turn raised two wonderful children each, who in turn raised a total of four children. Many times Bert said he was really blessed with his family. Helen died after they had been married 42 years, Bert was at loose ends for awhile, then he met and married Elvera, who brought love and happiness back into his life for the last 23 years. Bert had a full life; he often said the Second World War had a major effect on his life. He was in the army for over four years, fighting in North West Europe with the South Saskatchewan Regiment. He said there is no other place on earth where you meet and love men under those conditions. So we say goodbye for now Bert, until we meet again. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Kildonan United Church. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111
