KATHERINE MARY NORAH TAYLOR May 21, 1907 June 17, 2010 On, June 17, 2010, Norah Taylor completed her earthly journey which she began in Wimbledon, England on May 21, 1907, as the only child of Frederick and Mary Webster. When Norah was 13 months old, her father died suddenly. In the spring of 1910, Norah and her mother embarked for Canada aboard the Empress of Ireland settling in Winnipeg. Norah attended St. Ignatius School until she became employed as a clerk in the mail order department of the T. Eaton Company. Norah met her future husband, Eli Taylor, and after a short courtship were married on September 19, 1931. They began their life together in a new home on Martin Avenue. Both parents were active in the raising of their two children, Brenda and Ross. They were very active in school and community life, giving countless hours of volunteer service. Norah was first and foremost a mother, wife and homemaker. She was an avid curler and a member of Elmwood Ladies Curling, including serving as Club President. Over the years her team brought home many trophies for the club, including the City Championship Shell Oil Trophy. Norah participated in the game into her 80s, and was honoured by the club as a life member. Norah also enjoyed her ladies sewing club, afternoon bridge, and Manitoba Theatre, as well as Wednesday morning coffee party , with her neighbours. She loved reading, especially what she referred to as good writing , and enjoyed regular trips to Grand Beach. Norah and Eli were fortunate to enjoy several trips with good friends, travelling extensively in the US and Canada. Following the death of Eli in 1981, Norah continued to travel making trips to England, Ireland and Scotland, where she met relatives and visited her native homeland. Norah was blessed with good health allowing her to live independently until the age of 96, when she took up residence at Beacon Hill Lodge. She received excellent care for the final years of her life. Norah leaves to cherish her memory, daughter Brenda Palz (Bernie) of Winnipeg; son Ross Taylor (Linda) of Tulsa, OK; grand-children: Barbara Palz, Susan Suppes (Garth), Sharon Palz-Stewart, Andrea Taylor, Tanis Landry (Jubal), David Taylor; and great-grandchildren, Caleb Norris, David Palz and Hannah Norris. As a family, we give thanks for Mother's long and full life, for her love and guidance, her support and companionship. She will be deeply missed. A service in celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. in St. John's Anglican Cathedral, 135 Anderson Ave. In accordance with Norah's wishes, her body has been donated to the Department of Anatomy for medical teaching and research. In lieu of flowers, should you desire, memorial donations may be made to the Special Olympics, Canadian Mental Health Association or the Sandra Schmirler Foundation.
