Born: Jan 31, 1918
Date of Passing: Jun 22, 2010
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJULIA HNATYSHYN (nee TYLKA) 1918 - 2010 Peacefully, on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 Julia Hnatyshyn passed away Misericordia Health Centre at the age of 92 years. Julia was predeceased by her husband Stephan, numerous brothers and sisters along with relatives in the Ukraine and the US. She leaves to mourn her passing daughter Darlene (Jake), and her granddogs, greyhounds Gigi and Roxy. The youngest of 10 children, Julia Tylka was born in Selo Sianok, Ukraine on January 31, 1918. She met and married her husband Stephan Hnatyshyn in post-war Munich, Germany. They arrived in Canada at Halifax's Pier 21 in 1948, and made their way west, settling in Winnipeg. Julia loved her garden, and would make the most delicious vegetable soup with home grown fresh ingredients. She also had a soft spot in her heart for lost and abandoned animals and people, and would, at the very least, offer them food and temporary shelter. Her love of reading lasted into her final days. She would sit for hours, magnifying glass in hand, poring over a book. She will be remembered and sadly missed by all who knew this, quiet, gentle, yet determined woman small of stature but big of heart. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Misericordia Health Centre, Cornish 6, for their compassionate care of Julia. Funeral Service will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home, on Friday, June 25, 2010 at 2:00 pm. Interment and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Julia's name to a charity of one's choice. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111
