Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELSIE EVA CURRIE (nee SCHICK) October 17, 1915 - June 22, 2010 Peacefully, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer, Elsie passed away on June 22. Elsie was born in Winnipeg in 1915. She married Bill Currie in 1945. They resided in Winnipeg, Yorkton and Toronto and returned back home to Winnipeg in 1978. She was predeceased by her husband Bill in 1985. A longtime resident of 21 Roslyn Road, she had lived the past year and a half at Dakota House which she loved. She was the last survivor of 11 siblings and their respective spouses - she was the Schick Matriarch. Although unable to have her own children, she became a mother hen to her 19 nieces and nephews. Elsie was direct, positive and had the guts to adapt to new generations. She was loved because she knew how to love - we shall miss her. The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the nurses at the Victoria Hospital, Rhonda and Faustima from the 4th Floor and a very special thanks go to Dr. Pacin for his patience, care and concern over the past couple of months and also all the nurses and aides on 3 South, in particular Sally Lagasse and Chyanne Webb for being with Auntie Elsie during her final moments. Service to be held at 11:00 a.m., June 29, 2010 at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway Ave., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of one's choice. Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway Avenue, in care of arrangements.
