Date of Passing: Jun 24, 2010
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY (PALUCK) USKIW (nee YARMILL) May 15, 1919 June 24, 2010 Peacefully in her sleep with family by her side, our beloved Mother, Mother-in-Law and Nana passed away at Red River Place Nursing Home. Mom was born and raised in Tyndall, MB, on the family farm. She later moved to Selkirk to work and there she met our Dad, John Paluck. They were married on May 2, 1942. They enjoyed 36 years together. After his death in 1978, she met and married John Uskiw on September 19, 1981. Mom loved flowers and proudly showed her flower gardens to all who visited. She was a homemaker and entertaining was a passion, with family and friends always around. Mom could always be counted on to supply baking for community and church events. We all enjoyed her delicious home-cooked meals, and have fond memories of back-yard get-togethers. Mom was a devout member of the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church and the Catholic Women's League. She was also a member of the Selkirk Hospital Ladies Auxiliary (1940-50s). She enjoyed curling, bowling, and travelling. Mom worked at Red River Place in the old building and at Selkirk Linen Service until retirement. All children held a special place in her heart and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the most precious. She leaves to mourn her daughter, Gloria Linklater (Leslie); daughter-in-law Linda Paluck; her beloved grandchildren Dawn Lipkewicz (Gerry), Robert Linklater (Jamie), and Darren Paluck (Marni); her cherished great-grandchildren Ashley and Bryson Lipkewicz, Jared Sandwith, Tyler and Cody Paluck (and their mother Tana), Nick, Tanner and Baylee Godfredsen. Also left to mourn her passing are her sister Sophie Roth; her sisters-in-law Elsie Yarmill and Helen Cleeton (Eric); brother-in-law Sam Uskiw; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Tekla and Sam Yarmill; her first husband John Paluck; son Edward Paluck; second husband John Uskiw; brothers Nick (Edith), Harry (Irene), John (Pauline), Mike and Peter; sister Olga Banish (Hank); brothers-in-law Nickie Paluck, Fred Sokolosky (Elsie), Frank Roth, and sister-in-law, Olga Uskiw. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated Wednesday, June 30, at 10:30 a.m. in the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Selkirk with Fr. Peter Chorney officiating. Interment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Roth, Peter Roth, Glenn Banish, Brian Yarmill, Jim Yarmill, Robert Linklater and Darren Paluck. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mary may be made to the Rainbow Society (for Manitoba children), 303-1 Wesley, Winnipeg R3C 4C6 or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the staff for their compassion and care over the 10 years that Mom was a resident at Red River Place. You are our guardian angel now. Rest peacefully. We will miss you. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
