HELEN HILDA ORVIS (nee PSHEBNICKI) Peacefully on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Tudor House Personal Care Home. Helen was born on July 7, 1929 in Dauphin, Manitoba. Her family soon moved and settled in the Niagara Falls region in Ontario. Upon competition of Secretarial School she began to travel to various locations in Western Canada and eventually settled in Churchill, Manitoba in the early 1950s. She worked for Department of Transport, National Harbours Board and for various other local businesses and also ran her own restaurant and confectionery store. In 1964 she adopted her daughter Kimberly Ann. In 1972 she met Frank Orvis and they married and moved to East Selkirk in 1973. She worked for Selkirk Lumber then for the Department of Northern Affairs and the Department of Health before retiring. She found retirement a little too quiet so she volunteered as an aide at the Selkirk Jr. High. Eventually she was hired permanently and worked another few years before retiring again. She then volunteered at the Selkirk General Hospital Gift Shop. Helen loved her flowers and her garden and enjoyed working many long hours in the yard. She enjoyed travelling both to Ontario to see her family and to British Columbia, Arizona and Texas where she and Frank would vacation. She also enjoyed the company of her close friends and neighbours. She would always have the Tea on. Helen leaves behind Frank and Kim (Mary) of East Selkirk; brothers Alvin (Josephine) of Niagara Falls and Laurance (Olympia) of Lima, Peru and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Mary and Frank; sisters Ann, Veronica and Kate; brothers Steve, Stan, Joe and Alfred. The family would like to thank the staff at the Selkirk General Hospital and the Tudor House Personal Care Home for their kindness and care over the past year. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on July 9, 2010, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, 12 Hawthorne Place (located off Main Street and Calder Road, south of the town of Selkirk). Burial service will follow on July 10, 2010. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Winnipeg Humane Society or the no kill shelter of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
