Date of Passing: Jul 07, 2010
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY JEAN SINCLAIR Peacefully, on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 with family by her side, Dorothy joined her husband Gordon of 60 years, who passed on before her, in 2009. She was predeceased by her parents, Myrtle Fahey, Cecile Panter; her sister Joan Wright; brother-in-law Bob Johnson; and sisters-in-law, Beverly Burfield and Barbara Bell. Dorothy is survived by her sister Joyce Johnson; brothers-in-law, Don Bell and Robert Sinclair (Wendy); daughters, Brenda (Virgil) and Carol Ann (Brent). Her memory will be cherished by her grandchildren, Matthew Gordon Lloyd Hawkins, Lauren Danielle Hawkins, Sutter Owen Ian Paul, Drake Vaughan Paul; and her many cousins, nieces and nephews. Dorothy was born at home in Toronto, Ontario, on November 13, 1928, the first of three girls. She met the love of her life while ice skating at the age of 11 years. They were married at the age of 20 years. Dorothy worked at Trail Mobile and Bell Canada. When the girls were born, Dorothy became active in their activities. She was a Brownie leader and a librarian at the local school. The family moved to Halifax in 1962 to support Gordon's career at Otis. In 1967, they returned back to Ontario until their transfer to Winnipeg in 1970. Dorothy was an active member of Christ Anglican Church, St. Peter's Anglican Church and past chair of the Inner Wheel Club of Winnipeg. She had a love for the Winnipeg Art Gallery as a volunteer teacher in the Prints to the Schools Program. Her passion was golf with her good friends at St. Charles Country Club. She spent countless hours visiting friends in need, volunteering and organizing group events. Her family was the centre of her world. When asked, she would speak with pride over their accomplishments, naming each of them, one by one. Her good nature and outgoing personality will be sadly missed, but the energy and love she shared with everyone will remain, forever. A special thanks to family and friends who were there to support her over the past few months, to the remarkable staff at Riverview Health Centre 3 East - Palliative Care Unit for their care and compassion, and to Dr. Pat Harris, CancerCare Manitoba, who began this journey with us. A memorial service will be held in Dorothy's honor, Tuesday, July 13 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Anglican Church, 755 Elm Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Rotary Foundation or a charity of choice.
