RONALD HENRY MATTSON 1935 - 2010 After a brief illness, Ron has left us to join his parents and brother Ralph. Leaving to mourn are his brothers: Carl (Gwen) and family; Jim (Edna), nieces Lisa-Jane and Heather-Anne and families; sister Phyllis and nieces, Susan (deceased), Kim, Heidi, Tanya and families; niece Karen and sons Corey and Matt, cousin Lena Kotowich, as well as many extended family members. Ron had many physical struggles throughout his life. Along with his brother Jim, his first job was delivering papers in the Norwood Flats. Norwood was his home located beside the Floodbowl for most of his life. One of the most memorable events for him was during the 1950 Red River Flood when the family was relocated to stay with relatives near Teulon. The Norwood Community Club provided an opportunity to work: clearing snow and flooding the outdoor rink creating a most welcomed playground for the children. His love of the outdoors provided employment with the City of Winnipeg where he cared for the park areas, in particular Coronation Park. After his retirement Ron continued to care for the family's and neighbour's yards. He enjoyed the friendship of many friends in the neighbourhood. When his mother required increased care, he moved to Thorvaldson Place and the Quest Inn and the family expresses appreciation for their care. In 2008 Ron moved to River Park Gardens. The family expresses many thanks for their kindness and compassion. The staff provided a quality of life that became a blessing to Ron and to his family. We will ever be grateful to you all. A very special thank you to niece Karen and sons who spent many hours making his days brighter with outings, the many visits which were greatly appreciated. The family wishes to acknowledge your contribution in making his life more enjoyable in his later years. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the River Park Gardens, 735 St. Anne's Rd. with Father Roy officiating. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
