JOSEPH ALEXANDER KOSTUCHUK
Date of Passing: Jun 27, 2010
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEPH ALEXANDER KOSTUCHUK Peacefully, on Sunday, June 27, 2010, Joe Kostuchuk, beloved husband of Catherine, passed away with family at his side at the age of 72 years. At Dad's request, a private service was held on July 3 with his immediate family. However, he would like to posthumously acknowledge and thank all of his friends, neighbours, and fellow collectors who brightened his days in Dauphin and Portage la Prairie. Only those who attempt the absurd can achieve the impossible. M.C. Escher (Dad's favourite quote) Dad loved explosions, the feel of wood and brass in his workshop, and the blessing of the sun on a perfect summer day. He admired the explorer and surveyor Peter Fidler, and was something of an adventurer in his own right. Dad's biggest highs were collecting antiques and a good find at a flea market. As a child of the Great Depression he knew the value of a dollar. This was reflected in his political views, inventive nature and household management. Dad believed that everyone should get up each morning and get to work, to improve themselves or their community. He also believed the world would be a much better place if everyone planted a garden. Dad wanted to live to be 120 years old but when he was told he only had a few months to live, he never looked back. He didn't shed any tears, or make any complaints. The family celebrated his 48th wedding anniversary at his bedside with a bottle of champagne and a gourmet meal from a favourite restaurant. Dad lived his life peacefully with kindness, enthusiasm, and gratefulness. His grand-children will have lots of Papa Joe stories to pass down to their children, whether they were about his adventures on the farm, his latest invention, or riding his penny farthing bicycle. Joe will lovingly be remembered and greatly missed by his wife Cathy, son James (Kristin) and grandchildren Jennifer and Jacob of Portage, son Bob and granddaughter Jett of Winnipeg, brother Gene (Geri) of Flin Flon, and his nieces and nephews, Kerri (Roy) of Edmonton, Billy (Josie) and children Zack and Zoe from Creighton, David (Tammy) and children Brianna and Brett from Flin Flon, and Patti and son Niko from Salt Spring Island, as well as extended family, Dennis and Joan Zwarich, Susan Zwarich (Michael Costantini), and Kara Zwarich. The Kostuchuk and Zwarich families would like to extend a thank you for all the kindness extended to us during these difficult times. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Joe's memory to a charity of your choice. A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel 857-4021 A message can be left in the on-line guest book at www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
