JOAN KAZUK With respect and sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Joan Kazuk on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at the age of 85 years. Joan will be missed by her two sons, Allan (Charlotte) and Brian (Lillian); grandchildren, Michael (Frances), Robert and Jill; sisters, Marion Smoley (Peter), Kay Harman (Nick), Mabel Gregg (Walter, deceased) and Lorraine Medwid (Steve); brother Harry Panaschuk (Heather) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Bill and grandson David. Joan embraced nature which was evident through her meticulous care of her country home and gardens. You wouldn't be hard-pressed to find her hauling pails of mud, compost or rainwater from one end of the yard to another to tend to a special plant in need. Some might think of these activities as work but to Joan they were what made her hum and dance in the kitchen in the evening. Her passion for food was also no secret. Whether she was gardening, baking or sharing family dinner, she always enjoyed entertaining and took great pleasure indulging her guests. She especially enjoyed pampering her grandchildren with an endless supply of homemade treats. If you couldn't find Baba in the kitchen she was surely in the garden selecting the ingredients for her next culinary invention. Whether it was a plant, a person or a batch of dough, Joan treated everyone she knew and everything she did with love. She had a big heart and was always willing to extend a helping hand to anyone. There were no limits to the ways in which she quietly spread her joy and care. Throughout her life, Joan faced many difficulties and hardships, but she faced these obstacles with grace, dignity and determination. She was never afraid of the future and looked forward to it as a new adventure. A warm and special thank you to the compassionate staff of Betel Home who supported Mom in the final stages of her journey. A celebration of Joan's life will be held on Friday, July 16, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 500 Pacific Avenue in Selkirk with Father Peter Chorney officiating. Interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined but donations can be sent to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or CancerCare Manitoba.
