ELMER MATHEW WOLSKI June 18, 1947 - July 14, 2010 It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of Elmer Mathew Wolski. With his beloved wife Sharon (Corby) by his side, Elmer made his final journey. Elmer's was a life well lived and we are honoured to have known and loved him. Elmer fought an honourable, courageous and graceful battle with lung cancer. His attitude was always positive and he would obtain all the right information in order to make the most informed decision. He surrounded himself with his wonderful friends, people he truly valued in his life. Being a realist, Elmer was looking for truth, not always the easy thing to hear, but this allowed him to make those difficult decisions down the road. Elmer is survived by his wife and best friend, Sharon, with whom he created a life of travel, great times entertaining friends and rich in laughter. Family was the most important thing to Elmer. He was a good, kind, loving and generous man, who would do anything for you. He was a great example to others. Elmer also leaves to cherish his memory his extended family; Cindy (Colin); Tiger (Shelley) and children; Randy (Debbie) and children; Marilyn (Eddy) and children. Elmer leaves to mourn his untimely passing his brother Ernie and wife Leona, as well as many aunties, his nephews, Michael (Cindy), Jeffrey (Andrea), numerous cousins and a multitude of close friends. Elmer was predeceased by his mother Anne, and a younger brother Everett. Elmer was born in Canora, SK in 1947 on June 18, 1947. He completed Grade 12 in Vulcan, Alberta and moved to Winnipeg. He worked 33 years with Eaton's as a 2nd Class Power Engineer and then at Rothesay in Winnipeg. While working Elmer went on in 1978 to obtain his Pilot's License. He bought and rebuilt a Cessna 180 on floats and made many hunting, fishing and guiding trips into Northern Manitoba where he had built his Castle in the Bush . This was the place he shared with many friends. Elmer was always at peace when he was at one with nature. Elmer believed strongly that whatever you undertook to do, you must do your best. His legacy was inspired by nature, nurtured by laughter, and lives on in all who knew what an interesting and committed individual he was. Elmer was an entrepreneur, a positive thinker, progressive, confident, honest, intelligent, funny, generous, passionate, out-going, hard-working, kind and loving. Elmer lived by the Golden Rule of Life. He did well unto others, as he did unto himself. One example of this was his dedication to health and wellness. Elmer was very conscientious about what he put into his body and he used his body like a machine. For many years Elmer was a long-distance runner and cyclist. He also stayed in shape by taking daily walks into Selkirk and back, a total 10 mile round trip. Winter, summer, spring and fall, you could see Elmer walking down those tracks, waving to all his friends. On many of these he would stop and have a coffee with Jean Starodub, whose company and dainties he truly enjoyed. She treated him like a son which touched him deeply. Some of Elmer's greatest accomplishments were the beautiful home he and Sharon built; his rebuilt Cessna 180 on floats; his Castle in the Bush up north; their fifth wheel and finally their Bus . They travelled extensively through Western Canada and the USA making friends everywhere they went. This was Plan B upon Elmer's retirement. That, along with Day Trading became Elmer's greatest passion. He was quick to learn, developing day trading systems and platforms that were unheard of in Canada. He quickly became one the most successful traders in Canada. He shared his expertise with others who showed interest and these people too, went on to do well under Elmer's guidance. There are many people that Sharon and Elmer would like to acknowledge on this very special journey that they have taken. Out of the saddest of days, and upon hearing the worst news, they gathered the strength to look around and see the amazing people who surrounded them with their knowledge, care, treatments options and comfort. Sharon and Elmer have been fortunate to have received the care of many wonderful professionals, some of these are: Drs. West, Butler, Elbardisy and Ahmed; the Ambulance and Nursing Staff at the Selkirk District General Hospital; and special thanks to Wes Gilbart for his professional care and attention. At Elmer's request there will be no funeral, instead Elmer wanted to invite you all to share a cup of coffee and lunch at the Selkirk Golf and Country Club on Saturday, July 17, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. He hoped we would share some stories of the good old days . At Elmer's request, a private family interment has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Selkirk Palliative Care Unit, c/o Selkirk General Hospital, Box 5000, Selkirk, MB R1A 2M2. A life well-lived is a great blessing when one is taken too soon. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

  • Elmer, you were a wonderful friend, full of ideas and helpful advice. We will miss the heated discussions over a glass of wine! There was never a dull moment with you around! We know you are flying high now and we hope you will do a barn storming dive down to earth and check up on us once in a while. Hasta La Vista...See you when we see you!
