RUDY HERC Peacefully, on July 16, 2010, at the Selkirk General Hospital, Rudy Herc, aged 99 years, beloved husband of Pauline. Rudy was predeceased by his parents Tony and Louise; sisters Mary, Helen and Josephine; brothers Joe and Charlie; son-in-law Steve. Rudy is survived by his wife Pauline, of 75 years; daughters Louise and Elizabeth (Jens) and grandson Steven. Rudy was raised and educated in Norfolk, Virginia, USA and moved to Canada as a young man. Rudy excelled in everything he did during his working years! Building the C.N.R rail line to Sheridon, MB and Churchill, MB, and he farmed in the Swan River Valley. Rudy returned to the U.S.A with his wife and daughters to join the Herc Restaurant Business . Rudy always maintained Education was essential and insured that his girls attended private high school and college. Retirement years were around the corner and Rudy and Pauline returned to Canada and settled in Selkirk, MB, where Rudy worked at the Selkirk Golf and Country Club where he made many lasting friendships. Rudy kept up with world news, current affairs and politics in general. Travel in retirement took Rudy and Pauline throughout the U.S.A and Canada from coast to coast to coast. As well as several cruises on the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence Seaway as far as Havre St. Pierre , the mouth of the Atlantic Ocean. Many fond memories of visiting England, Europe and Arizona as well. Rudy will always be remembered to have a smile especially when it was time to extract honey from his many bee hives. Rudy lived a full life, his wit, patience, kindness and honesty will be remembered with fondness by all who knew him. We would like to thank Betel Personal Care Home for their kindness. A special thanks to the Doctors and staff at the Selkirk General Hospital and to the E.M.T.s for their care, compassion and support during this difficult time. In keeping with Rudy's wishes a private service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
