Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBARRY LAVERNE EDWARDS It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Barry on July 20, 2010, at the age of 77 years, at his home in Niverville. Barry will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his loving wife of 57 years, Helen; and his daughters, Debby (Brian) Strong, June (Don) Elliot, and Dawna (Doug) Knutt. He was an inspiration to his grandchildren, Morgan (Leah) and Brian (Cate) Strong; Holly (Greg) Storey, William (Andrea) Elliot; Scott, Barry (Autumn) and Kyle Knutt; Sean (Niki) and Justin Edwards, Shannon (Steve) Ginter, and their mother Kim; and also his great-grand-children. He is also survived by his sister Francis Askin, brother Chuck (Nona) Edwards, and brother-in-law Sandy (Carmen) Grant. Barry was predeceased by his mom Edith and dad Charles, loving son Ron, and nephews David and Andrew Grant. Barry was born September 28, 1932 in Winnipeg and grew up on a farm in Otterburne West. Dad went to a one room school house two and one-quarter miles from home and continued his education in Morris. In 1950 Dad stayed and worked on the family farm. In the fall of 1951 Barry met Helen Grant, and they were married on June 27, 1953. Mom and Dad lived in Otterburne West. While they raised their four children they lived their farm life to the fullest. Curling, baseball, cards, and playing drums for the Melody Mikes filled Dad's spare time, while mixed farming full time. In 2010 Mom and Dad moved to the Niverville Credit Union Manor. In his short time there, Dad, with his special smile, warmed many hearts of staff and residents. Mom and girls would like to thank all the staff and residents of the Niverville Credit Union Manor for their care and kindness. The ALS Society of Manitoba and the ALS Team has been there for Dad and family every step of the way, and we thank you. The service to celebrate Barry's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 27 at the Morris United Church, 207 Ottawa Avenue West in Morris. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Barry's honour to the ALS Society of Manitoba.
