JUDITH A. L. HILLAND
Date of Passing: Jul 23, 2010
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJUDITH A. L. HILLAND 1954 - 2010 At home with family by her side early morning on Friday, July 23, 2010, Judith ended her yearlong battle with cancer. Judy was born in Swan River and was raised in Churchill. She earned her undergraduate degree in Zoology at the University of Lethbridge and her degree in Computer Science at the University of Manitoba. She worked at various jobs over her full life. She met Ray at the Fresh Water Institute at the University of Manitoba and worked as a freelance computer programmer and as a youth care worker with Naturas. She settled in St. Malo in 1976 and with her partner Ray, raised their daughter Winter in the community. Judy became ill in 1992 and decided to work at home. She built the Judith's Books bookstore and kept the St. Malo area and libraries all over the province supplied with the best new books in both official languages. Her drive and enthusiasm for the written word has inspired many readers province-wide. Her thirst for knowledge and love of nature also inspired many people and her generous spirit ensured she passed on her knowledge to anyone who was interested. Her fountain of knowledge is going to be sorely missed. Predeceased by her mother and father, she left many people to mourn her passing, including; her husband Ray and daughter Winter (fiancé Lawrence), her sisters Wendy (Hugh Anderson) and Bonnie (John Daly). She was an integral part of Ray's family and will be missed by Ray's mother Olga Sie, brothers Dan (Norma) and Jim. Judy was active in the lives of her nephews and nieces and her absence will be felt by Kevin (Jody), Collin (Chrissy), Trevor, Jennifer, Shelby (Ross), Ian, Stuart, and Jenna. Ray and Winter would like to thank family and friends for their constant support during Judy's illness and especially her sister Wendy for always being there (even from Seattle). Cremation has already taken place and a celebration of Judy's life will be held at her home on Thursday, July 29 at 3:00 p.m. There will be an informal memorial service followed by potluck dinner. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to South Eastman Health Palliative Care Program, Box 88, St. Pierre, R0A 1V0. Please designate funds to the Western Region. They and homecare workers did an excellent job of assisting the family in letting Judith pass away peacefully at home. The family is extremely grateful for all their support and care. We hope donations will help them continue to support families with the level of excellence we experienced.

I met Judy when at University at a time when I was lost, confused and needed a friend. Well, of course, Judy, Ray and Winter (just a toddler then) were there for me. They changed my life and I have lived with them in my heart ever since. I am deeply saddened to hear of Judy's passing and send all of my love to Ray and Winter. - Posted by: Diana Drysdale (Friend) on: Nov 23, 2012
