Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHINDA RISMAN (nee BLANK) May 1, 1940 - July 4, 2010 After a long period of illness and many close calls, mom passed at the Victoria Hospital. Funeral was held on July 6 at the Hebrew Sick Cemetery, officiated by Rabbi Lander of Etz Chaim. Pallbearers were: Sheldon Blank, Jim Davis, David Gurvey, Lanny Silver, Herb Singer, Michael Tessler and Steven Zimberg. Mom was predeceased by her parents Oscar and Rose Blank (later Gelfant), brother Alvin Blank, husband Larry Risman (2008). She leaves to mourn, daughters Rona and Rochelle Risman, sister Penny Reese of Las Vegas, sisters-in-law Helene Blank of Vancouver and Marilyn Wilson of Whitby, ON, brother-in-law Gil Risman of Toronto, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews and cousins. Mom was born in Winnipeg, where she lived until moving to Vancouver in her early 20s. It was there that she met my father. After a short courtship, they moved to Winnipeg where they were married and lived for their remaining years, raising Rona and myself. Before meeting dad, mom worked mainly as a bookkeeper. After marriage, mom remained at home until we were teenagers, when she went to work at dad's life insurance agency. Mom loved people and spent an extraordinary amount of time on the phone. Mom loved travelling the world with dad, and especially enjoyed their winters in Palm Springs. She also spent countless hours playing Boggle with dad. Sadly, mom's health took a major down-turn some years ago, and she spent the past several years in and out of hospital, her longest stay lasting almost a year. Through it all, she remained strong and dealt with it with dignity and courage. She will be missed terribly. Much thanks go to the St. Boniface and Victoria Hospital staff. Donations may be made to the Cancer Society or Heart Stroke Foundation.
