MARGARET JOYCE BURTON It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Joyce Burton (nee Huhn) who suffered a heart attack on Sunday, August 1, 2010. She leaves to mourn her husband Robert, children Bob (Penny), Cathy, Doug, Lisa, and Roslynne (Ryan), her beloved grandchildren Tara, Mark, Ethan, and Kaspir, her mother, Grace Huhn, her much-loved siblings, Joan (Ed), Catherine (Frank), John, and Grace (Gary), numerous nieces and nephews, family and friends. Margaret was predeceased by her father, Jack Huhn. Margaret lived a full life, filled with a deep love of family, music, and researching her family genealogy. She was born on August 18, 1936 and raised in Pine Falls, Manitoba. At the age of 15 she was chosen to represent the Manitoba branch of C.G.I.T. at the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. She remembered this experience fondly during trips to Europe in 2005 and 2007. Margaret graduated from Teachers College in 1956 and then taught one year in Morris. She married Bob on August 3, 1957. Together they raised five children who adored their mom. She instilled in each one of us her love of music, her love of learning, her sense of humour, and her sense of community. She was very active in Rebeccas, the U.C.W., and the Northwest Marquette Festival while living in Binscarth. Margaret took up teaching again after she and Bob moved to Fisher River (Koostatak). There, she helped with the Cree Choir, was a charter member of the Festival of the Arts for Native Students, and a much-loved teacher. She loved to travel and to spend her summers at the cottage with friends and family. Mom has always been there for us. Over the years, she has tirelessly cared for her family and extended family, especially those who were ill. Her selfless Christian outlook on life is what we will remember the most about her. A celebration of Margaret's life will be held on Thursday, August 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Westminster United Church, Winnipeg, MB. A gathering of family and friends will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, please give to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
