NELLIE JANET STROMME (nee JANCZYN) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nellie Stromme after a brave, but brief battle with cancer, on Thursday, August 5, 2010, at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 83 years. Remaining to forever cherish Nellie's memory are her devoted husband, Oliver; children, Lorraine (Dana) and Linda (David); grandsons, Allan and Eric; step-grandsons, Daniel and Julian; extended family and many treasured friends. She is predeceased by her parents, Michael and Pauline, who immigrated to Canada from Poland in the early 1900s. Nellie was born on October 15, 1926 in Winnipeg, MB. She was raised in Northern Saskatchewan (Chelan), where she received her high school education and met her beloved husband Ollie. She went on to graduate with honours from a Winnipeg Business College in 1944 and worked as an executive assistant with various organizations. Nellie married Ollie in 1949, celebrating 60 years of marriage in 2009. She was a curling enthusiast as well as a member in the Westview Ballroom Dance Club. She made many new friends and was very happy after moving to the Kiwanis Courts Senior's Residence in 2009. In compliance with Nellie's wishes, no formal Funeral Service will be held. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and many caring staff at the Riverview Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit. In lieu of flowers, donations in Nellie's memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3; the Riverview Health Centre Foundation, 1 Morley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4; or CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
