SHIGEAKI (ROD) SUGIMOTO Shigeaki Rod Sugimoto, passed away suddenly on the morning of June 20, 2010 at the age of 82. Born February 14, 1928 in Vancouver BC, to parents, Genjiro and Hana Sugimoto. The family was interned in 1942 and settled in Carman, MB in 1945. It was in Carman where Dad met and married Lillian Laura Clearwater of Roseisle, MB, and in 1959, he and Lillian moved to and settled in Winnipeg Predeceased by his parents, sister Yuri, brother George and his bride Lillian. Dad is lovingly remembered by his sons, Scott (Rosanne) and Kurtis; his granddaughters, Sara and Jessica; his sister Tosh and her daughters, Gaia, Pam and Jennifer, many other nieces, nephews and friends and by a very special friend Fran Duffey. Dad's working life was spent building and finishing homes in Winnipeg and the surrounding area. He took great pride in his work and was a true craftsman. I had the opportunity to meet a real estate agent who informed me that homes that had their interiors finished by Rod Sugimoto was a selling feature. Such was the quality of his work. He was always involved in his son's activities and as much as his health allowed, continued to do so with the his granddaughters, Sara and Jessica. Many afternoons at the curling rink, sitting by the soccer pitch and attending school functions. Dad also took great pleasure in spending time with friends at his neighbourhood Tim Horton's, going out for dinner and just travelling around exploring Manitoba. At Dad's request, a private family service was held shortly after his passing.
