EDITH FRANCK 1922 - 2010 Edith Franck passed away at the Concordia Hospital on August 7, 2010, after a short battle with lung cancer at the age of 87. Predeceased by her husband, Wilhelm Franck in 1994, father Fritz and mother Eudexia Dusa . She was a loving mother of three daughters: Karen (Leo) Taglis, Dolly (Roger) Peters, Cindy (Rick) Zielinski and one son: William (Patti) Franck; nine grandchildren: Sofie, Billy, Natalie, Jon-Jon, Marley, David, Christopher, Amy and Billie, and great-grandchildren: Nikki, Anthony, Mackenzie and Madison Grace. She was born on October 13, 1922 in Moabit, Germany. She lost both of her parents at an early age and lived in a nun's convent in Ibbenburen, Germany from 1936 to 1939. She worked at the Doberitz Airport from 1940 to 1945 as an air controller. Shortly after she met her beloved husband, Wilhelm, they immigrated to Canada in 1953. They settled in Winnipeg and raised their four children. Edith and Wilhelm faced many challenges, including learning a new language. Edith felt very blessed that she was able to leave Germany to live in Canada. Edith worked many years in the maintenance of the Courts of St. James and Birchwood Terrace apartment blocks. Mum was an avid fan of wrestling, baking, cooking German foods and spending time with her loved ones. Funeral Services will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. A reception to follow in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. The family would like to thank the staff at Concordia Hospital, Homecare and the Sturgeon Creek II Retirement Residence for all of their kindness and compassion.
