FABIENNE (FABIE) ROBIDOUX (nee POIRIER) Peacefully, at the Riverview Health Centre, on Sunday, August 8, 2010, Fabienne passed away at the age of 88 years old. Mrs. Robidoux (better known as Fabie) was born in Mariapolis on April 3, 1922. As the eldest of a family of five, Fabienne learned at a very early age to accept responsibility. At 16, she was already helping her mother with post office duties (after school hours and during holidays). Upon completing her schooling at the local school, Fabienne came to Winnipeg, accepting work in the laboratory department at St. Boniface General Hospital. Her first experience with the lab was that of a Clerk Typist as well as helping out with other menial work. As a result, she became very interested in the field of medical technology and in 1944, she indeed graduated with the proud tile of Medical Technologist. Following graduation, she was hired at the hospital. She worked until the fall of 1945 at which time she resigned, accepting a post at the Brandon General Hospital. Four months later, she left for Edmonton, where she worked in a hospital until September 1947. She then came back to St. Boniface General Hospital to work until her retirement in 1977. Fabienne was very active in both the Manitoba branch and the National Society of the C.S.L.T. She taught Medical Technology, Hematology Blood Banking for a period of 10 years. She held responsibilities as the Supervisor of both departments and later on, was appointed Administrative Technologist of the Department of Laboratories. She passionately loved her work and her students (some with whom she kept close contact over the years). After retiring, Fabie spent precious time with her beloved husband Abel (who passed away in late October 1986). She then took the opportunity to travel (especially through Europe, Canada and the US). Thus, Fabie created long lasting friendships around the world. Left to cherish her memories are: her sister-in-law Irène Poirier (nee Morin), her many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, including the Robidoux family. Fabie was also predeceased by her brothers Albert and Father Eugène Poirier SJ, and her sisters Angela and Gabrielle. Many special thanks are extended to Georges and Joan Vadas, Jeanette Rocan, Irène Kirouac, Adrienne, Sister Rose Desrochers, S.N.J.M. and the wonderful staff and residents of l'Accueil Colombien. Also special thanks are given to Dr. Grenier, Dr. Shah, and the staff at the Riverview Health Centre for all the wonderful and professional care. Fabie also greatly appreciated the priests and the people who travelled from afar to visit her during her illness. Prayers will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 12, 2010, at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons Street. Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 13 at the St. Boniface Cathedral. Interment of the cremated remains will be held at a later date at Green Acres Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 Mc-Dermot Ave., Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 (phone 787-4143). DESJARDINS 233-4949 1-888-233-4949
