THIESSEN 1930 - 2010 Devoted husband of Marion for 56 years and father of four, passed at Royal Columbian Hospital, New Westminster, BC on August 10th. Herman lived a life of service to his community and faith. After farming with his parents in Lowe Farm, MB he joined the Winnipeg Fire Department, progressing from fire fighter to captain. Herman then served the Government of Manitoba advancing to the position of Fire Commissioner, establishing the Fire College in Brandon, MB and conducting investigations throughout Manitoba. In his retirement Herman volunteered in many soup kitchens, with St. Vincent de Paul, and visitations of the sick with St. James Roman Catholic Parish, in Abbotsford, BC. He was a craftsman and enjoyed making custom furniture. Herman is survived by wife Marion, their four children Jo-Ann, Diane, Ken and Gerry, his brother Ed and sister Edna. He was much loved by his 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and extended Thiessen and Gawron families. Funeral mass will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 16 at St. James Roman Catholic Parish, 2767 Townline Rd., Abbotford BC V2T 5E1.
