STEPHANIA SMERECHYNSKY It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Stephania on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at the Seven Oaks Hospital with her husband Leon by her side. Stephania leaves to mourn her loving husband of 47 years, Leon; daughter, Diane (Graham); granddaughters, Erica and Tara; great-grandson, Cole. She was predeceased by her father, mother and two brothers. Stephania was born on April 6, 1923 in Davidkovtse, Ukraine. During the Second World War, she worked in Germany and later immigrated to Canada first living in Toronto. It was there she met Leon and they came to Winnipeg and married in 1961. Stephania loved gardening, especially flowers, and she was an extraordinary cook and baker. She was always a gracious hostess and was very generous in entertaining relatives from Ukraine. She also enjoyed spending summers at the cottage in Grand Beach. She will be deeply missed. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 25 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Ave. with a Basilian Father officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. The family would like to thank Dr. Ross, Dr. Tan and all the other doctors and nurses at Seven Oaks Hospital for their care and compassion during Mother's final days.
