Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySHIRLEY PATRICIA CASTELANE (nee HUNTER) 1932 - 2010 After a lengthy illness, our dearest Nanny, at the age of 78, passed away on August 23, 2010 in comfort and peace surrounded by her loving family at the Victoria General Hospital. Pat was born in Winnipeg on July 27, 1932 to Margaret and Gordon Hunter (deceased) and had one brother, Frank (deceased). She received her education at Cecil Rhodes School and Daniel McIntyre in Winnipeg. She worked for several years at the Canadian Wheat Board. Patricia is survived by her beloved husband Ron, of 57 years, four children Karen (Dan Weinryb), Cole (Carla), Susan (George Belanger), and Mark, and six grandchildren Jillian and Joey Belanger, Brett and Quinn Castelane, and Max and Sydney Weinryb. She is also survived by her brother Frank's children Ken, Jeff, Pat and Laura and their families as well as brother-in-law, Ernie (Irene) Castelane and their daughters, Linda, Debbie and Jan and their families. At an early age, Pat was recognized for her personality, beauty, class and elegance. She became one of Winnipeg's top ramp and photographic models and was sought after by companies such as The Bay, Eaton's and Brigdens. Pat developed many friendships through her modeling career some of whom were Jeanette Currie, Barb Cannell, Lee Theissen and Pearl Robertson. In 1952, through the insistence of her Aunt Rose, Pat entered the Miss Blue Bomber contest and won. She then proceeded to become Canada's Miss Grey Cup that same year. Notwithstanding all of Pat's considerable accomplishments, she will be most remembered for her dedication to her family. She was the ideal wife and most wonderful mother, always putting family first. Nanny was the strength and anchor of our family and her absence will be forever missed. Pat's thoughtfulness and generous nature together with her positive spirit superseded her physical beauty. She was comfortable with, and related to, every type of person, listened intently to everyone with whom she associated and endeared herself to all those who met her. In particular, Pat will be sadly missed by Brenda Mercer, her dear friend and third daughter , who gave much of her time and kindness over the years to Pat and with whom she shared a strong bond. The family acknowledges the Winnipeg Fire Paramedics as well as Dr. Semus and all of the dedicated and hard working staff at the Victoria General Hospital for their compassion and assistance during this difficult time. In accordance with Pat's wishes, the family will hold a private service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, (204) 477-3426, www.vgh.mb.ca in Pat's memory will be greatly appreciated. At the family's request, all friends are welcome to join us for a Come and Go reception to celebrate Pat's life on Friday, August 27 from 11:15 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Pat, our love, you will never have a problem entering the gates of Heaven because you have the master key. Forever always. THOMSON IN THE PARK 925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com
