BERYL JUZDA May 17, 1923 September 4, 2010 On Saturday, September 4, Beryl passed away at Concordia Place nursing home at the age of 87. She was predeceased by her husband William (Bill), her sister Helen and her parents James and Grace Stuart. A beloved mother and grandmother, she is survived by her sons, Stuart and Christopher; her daughter-in-law Carly; her grandchildren, Nicolas, Elise, Anika and Jane; and her great-granddaughter Amaya. Beryl was born and raised in Norwood. After graduating high school, she worked at the Royal Bank. She married her husband Bill, who was at the time a pilot in the RCAF, in 1942. She left her work, and travelled with Bill from the Atlantic to the Pacific coasts as he was serving with Coastal Command. After the war, she accompanied him during his hockey career and lived in New York and Toronto before returning to Winnipeg. She and her husband purchased a house in East Kildonan in 1950, just in time for the flood. For the next 58 years, she lived there and contributed to her Hazel Dell community. She was especially fond of the children and the pets of the neighbourhood. Aside from a short period of part-time employment at Eaton's, Beryl did not return to work. Her primary occupation was always being a wife and mother. Beryl was devoted to her husband Bill throughout 65 years of marriage. During the last 10 years of his life, she selflessly and unstintingly cared for him in his deteriorating condition. Despite her own health problems (which she suffered with characteristic stoicism) and the limits assisting him placed upon her own activities, she continued to provide him with a very high quality of life, and she felt a great sadness when he passed away. She had also looked after her parents, particularly her mother, in their final years. Beryl was always supportive of her children in their activities and generous with her grandchildren. Ever willing to give, she never expected anything in return. She took great delight in her family. Beryl loved animals, especially dogs and horses. She enjoyed gardening, walking the neighbourhood with her dogs, and experiencing nature. At her suggestion and with her help, her husband built a cottage at Victoria Beach in 1958, and she enjoyed spending time there each summer. Beryl did needlework and, in her younger years, she painted. She enjoyed reading, particularly mysteries. She liked to travel and made several trips to Europe. She was a volunteer with a number of community organizations over the years, including the Bronx Park Community Club, and generously supported charities, especially the Humane Society. Beryl's motto was use it or lose it . Always wanting to be independent, she would walk with a walker to local stores even in her 80s. Beryl had many friendships over her lifetime, and will be missed by all who knew her. Her family would like to thank Dr. Paul Sawchuk, the staff at the Renal Clinic, Winnipeg Home Care and the staff at Concordia Place, for the care that they gave to Beryl in the last years of her life.
