She will be sadly missed by her husband of 54 years, Donald; sons, Douglas (Shelly), Bruce, Thomas (Michelle); granddaughters, Meghan and Katherine; sister Shirley MacDowell; special aunt Edna Siemens; sister-in-law June Braun (Albert) and her nieces and nephews and cousins in Canada, USA, Scotland and Isle of Wight. Pat was predeceased by her parents, James and Winnifred Milne. Pat was born on November 2, 1933 at Misericordia Hospital in Winnipeg. She received her education in schools in River Heights, United College, Normal School and the University of Manitoba where she met her future husband. Following a brief teaching experience, she began work in the Real Estate Division of James Richardson and Sons. Pat and Don were married on September 29, 1956. They lived in Winnipeg until 1959 when they moved to Roblin. After a brief experience with country living in a trailer, they returned to Winnipeg and settled in Fort Garry where they raised their family. Music was a passion throughout Pat's life. She sang in school choirs, performed in school and University operettas and studied piano for many years. Pat worked for the Associated Manitoba Arts Festivals Inc. and was a longtime supporter of The Winnipeg Symphony. She taught piano to many Fort Garry students who will remember her for her patience and encouragement. Tennis was her favourite sport and she was a member of the Winnipeg Lawn Tennis Club and with her partner won the Manitoba Junior Ladies Doubles Championship. Curling, bridge and bowling were activities Pat enjoyed into her senior years. She was an active member in the Fort Garry Community Club, Fort Garry United Church Women's Group, and freely gave her time to many volunteer organizations. Many summers were spent with her family at Clear Lake and travelling in Canada and the United States. In 1983 Pat and Don took a winter vacation to Hawaii not knowing they would return for 27 consecutive years. Pat developed a deep appreciation of the Hawaiian culture particularly their music, chanting and dance. She had many favourite Hawaiian entertainers especially Kuu ipo Kumukai (Ipo). In 2002 Pat travelled to Scotland and England and visited her father's birth place of Edinburgh. Family was the most important part of Pat's life and it was her pride and joy. She will always be remembered for her dedication to her family and friends. Her great determination and positive attitude to life gave her the strength to carry her through many periods of illness. The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to Dr. Ian Maxwell and the staff of the Victoria Hospital Oncology Department for the many years of kind and compassionate care given to Pat. A memorial service to celebrate Pat's life will be held on Friday, September 10, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in Fort Garry United Church, 800 Point Road and Lyon.
