MARIA FERENC (nee NYKOLUK) It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our dear mother Maria Ferenc on September 6, 2010, at Seven Oaks Hospital. She is survived and deeply missed by her children Anna and Joseph, son-in-law Orest, sister Anna Sopuliak, nieces, nephews and extended family in Ukraine. Maria was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Michael, brothers Joseph and Wasyl, brother-in-law Mykhailo Sopuliak, and sister Honoria just 2 weeks ago. Maria was born April 14, 1924 in Krekhovychi, Ukraine. The turmoil of the Second World War transported her to Poland where she remained for a time in the town of Glogowek. In 1960, she immigrated to Canada, settled in Winnipeg, and married Michael. Maria was a woman of great courage, a devoted wife and mother, and a gentle, merciful spirit with an engaging sense of humour. She generously supported community-building initiatives and ministered selflessly to house-bound neighbours and to friends and relatives in need. Maria was a long-time member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church and its perogy-making crew. She was an exemplary, prize-winning gardener who gladly shared her bountiful harvests with others. Maria was the source of strength for her family, lived her faith, and could work miracles through prayer. She stepped lightly on this earth and left a lasting impression. Funeral service will be held Monday, September 13, at 11:00 a.m. at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. with Rev. Fr. Isidore Dziadyk, OSBM officiating. Interment to follow in Holy Family Cemetery.
