Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM ROBERT SCOTT 1947 2010 June 18, 2010, the world lost a great man.....in my eyes the greatest. My dad was a man that was respected and admired by every person he met. He was a devoted husband and father, an adored grandfather, and a cherished friend. Words could never describe what an amazing person he was. There was no task too great and no challenge too daunting; he truly was remarkable in every aspect of his life and my world will never be the same without him in it. After a courageous battle with cancer, Bill passed away peacefully with his wife Gerda; children, Michael and Bobbie at his side. He is also survived by his mother Irene; sisters, Lynda, Diane and Bonnie; and four wonderful grandchildren, William and Kevin, Jordan and Ashleigh. Bill was born in Winnipeg and grew up in the Riverview community. He transferred to Edmonton with Eaton's in 1977. In 1981 the family moved to Coquitlam, where Bill was Western Manager for Sensormatic Canada until his retirement in 2006. Bill had many accomplishments, talents and hobbies but the essence of Bill's life is captured in fond family memories and many tributes from friends and coworkers. I had the privilege and pleasure of coaching Bill in midget hockey. He was, of course, a superb athlete. Beyond that, he was a dream to coach - talented, hard working, unselfish, even disposition and above all, humble. Those qualities, particularly when combined with exceptional athletic talent, inevitably produce an outstanding team leader, and that he was. Bill meant the world to me and has had an impact on my personal life as well as professional. I will never forget Bill or the moments, days, hours that I shared with him. I will truly miss him and his infectious laugh and love of life. Bill wasn't a self important guy. He was more of a protector, always went to bat for the people that were attached to him. And he could sure be a good stirrer when needed. We will never forget those rosy red cheeks. Bill, like no other, most certainly did everything he could to make other's lives better. Bill was a champion, a great dad, wonderful friend, super husband and a funny guy who loved laughter. He was such a vital person who lived his life well and made every day count. It has been an honour and a privilege to have had Bill in our lives. My dad was the most excellent friend. He was always there when I needed him, with advice, kindness and undying support. We had so many good times and fun we travelled together, we partied together. He never missed an opportunity for sharing insight and laughter. My dad was enormously strong understanding his strength, humour and intelligence will always provide inspiration. In respect to his life - to me, he will never be gone. Grandpa took us golfing and golf ball hunting in the forest. He made the best snowmen and snow slides. We had fun in his snow forts and we even had picnics in the snow. I will always remember the giant turtle that he caught when we went fishing. Grandma, Grandpa didn't die. He's just wandering around up there and watching us. I think he's in heaven. We don't know if there's a heaven because we've never been there, but I think there is. Bill, you will always be with me. I will always be with you.....love, Gerda. In lieu of flowers, contributions have kindly been made to various cancer agencies. A scholarship fund has also been established in Bill's honour. Donations can be made to Children's Heritage Fund, in care of Churchill High School, 510 Hay St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 2L6. (Please attach note to specify Bill Scott Athletic Award. Tax receipts will be issued.)
