SISTER GERMAINE MARCOUX In the deep of night of October 19, 2010, Sister Germaine Marcoux, aged 98 years and 11 months, went to sleep in the arms of her Creator, with a Grey Nun companion and the personnel of Taché Centre at her side. Born November 26, 1911 in Thibeaultville, Manitoba, she was the third of Maurice Marcoux and Thérèse Favreau's eight children. After a happy childhood on the family farm, Germaine entered the novitiate of the Grey Nuns in St. Boniface on August 5, 1931 and made her temporary profession on February 15, 1934. Three years later, at the Motherhouse in Montreal, Germaine committed herself to God forever as a disciple of Jesus and a follower of St. Marguerite d'Youville. With her well known enthusiasm, her love of life and her remarkable sense of humour, she was assigned to teaching, a career she enjoyed and lived to the fullest for more than 30 years in St. Norbert, Ste Anne-de-Chênes, La Broquerie, Lebret, Fort Frances and St. Michael's in North Dakota. After a sabbatical and a trip to Holy Land she was ready for her second career, namely pastoral work and visitation of the sick and elderly in Ste Rose-du-Lac, St. Boniface Hospital, Tache Centre and St. Amant Centre. Woman of prayer, filled with wonder and awe, with an artistic soul, she spent her free time painting beautiful sceneries and sunsets, and thus brought beauty and joy wherever she went. She willingly shared this talent with those she visited and worked with, especially the young people for whom she had a soft spot. Sister Germaine leaves to mourn besides her religious family, her sister Maria Boudria, her sister-in-law Florette and many nieces, nephews and friends. Awaiting her in Paradise are her parents, Maurice and Thérèse, her sisters Dora and Gertrude, her brothers Gualbert, Antonin, Maurice and Rosaire. Private prayer and viewing will take place at 7:00 p.m., followed by the celebration of Holy Eucharist at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 20, 2010 with Father Léo Couture officiating, at 151 Despins Street, St. Boniface, Manitoba DESJARDINS 233-4949 1-888-233-4949
