JOYCE FLORENCE MCKAY March 4, 1927 October 21, 2010 It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Joyce Florence McKay at age 83. Joyce was predeceased by her husband Michael Honan. She will be sadly missed by her sons Sean (Marlene) and Kevin (Tracy), grandchildren Desiree, Vanessa and Jack and her great-grandchildren, Liam and Petra. She is survived by her sister Gill (Peter) Dee and their extended family in England and Thailand. She also leaves behind an extensive list of life long friends and relatives in the UK, Ireland and Canada. Joyce spent most of her life in the UK where she taught elocution at Elmslie Girl's School. This led to a period where she travelled around the world examining international students which provided her with great satisfaction. She immigrated to Canada in 2008 to be closer to her family who were extremely important to her. She quickly developed a broad base of friends that she very much appreciated. Her major hobby was bird watching that she drew great pleasure from. She was also very active in the community participating in book clubs and line dancing. To the end she maintained her involvement with the Maypole Magazine' in which she and a group of friends kept in contact for over 50 years through monthly written correspondence. The family wishes to thank the staff and her friends at Dakota House for their support over the last few months. We also wish to thank the wonderful staff at Jocelyn House for their compassionate care over the last few weeks of her life. In keeping with Joyce's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family remembrance will be held.
