DIANNE SMITH (nee LAFRENIERE) Peacefully with her family by her side, Dianne Smith passed away, at the age of 58, at Riverview Health Centre on October 16, 2010 after a brief battle with cancer. Lovingly remembered by her husband, Gordon Smith, their daughters Ainslie Constance and Andrea Therese, her sisters Lorraine D'Alessandro (Lee) and Yvette Deobald (Earl) and her brother Marc Lafreniere. She will also be missed by her sister-in-law Brenda Smith, many nieces and nephews, family and friends. Dianne was born March 17, 1952 in St. Boniface to parents Albert and Therese Lafreniere. Dianne grew up in St. Vital and graduated from Glenlawn Collegiate. Dianne and Gordon met at the concert hall and married fours years later on June 26, 1973. Dianne loved being a mother and raising her two daughters brought her much pride and joy. Dianne came from a large family and enjoyed the numerous gatherings and reunions with them. This desire to be with family extended through her life and she continued to plan and hold family gatherings. Dianne recently took an interest in her genealogy and loved to share this information with her extended family. Dianne's career was largely in banking and finance for a number of employers including TD Bank, CIBC, Wellington West and BCCA. Dianne had an outstanding gift for making people feel special and was always there with a smile, laugh or a helping hand. She was truly an outstanding Director of First Impressions for her employers. Dianne loved entertaining, gardening, spending time at the cottage, playing cards and games, happy hour on the beach, travelling, shopping trips to the United States, and volunteering (Variety Club, Cottage Owners Association, Rotary Club). Dianne had an extensive network of good friends. Known by all for her caring attitude and genuine love for those around her, she rejoiced in people's achievements and supported them through adversity. If you were fortunate enough to know Dianne then you have surely been touched by her generosity and kind spirit. You know Dianne hugs are the best hugs in the world! A celebration of Dianne's life will be held at Glen Lawn Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation (675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9) or Riverview Health Centre Foundation (1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4).
